Lee and I perform together in a folk band. He sat for me and I painted while he played, then I finished the painting from photographs. I paint in a largely alla prima style, using a knife in the later stages as I love the marks it makes. I have begun experimenting with other mark-making materials too, and here I used bubble wrap for the buttons on the accordion.
I trained as an illustrator at Glasgow School of Art from 1984-89, and since 1993 I have been an Art and Design teacher in Dumfries.
