I am a student at Edinburgh College of Art, and work as an artist’s model. I believe that modelling is more than a passive act. The exchange between artist and sitter is integral to the work and I hope to express this in my portraiture.
The portrait is of my close friend Niall. I am interested in the construction of gender and find myself drawn to sitters whose appearance combines masculinity and femininity. I clothed Niall in my kimono which I throw on between poses when I am modelling, symbolically connecting the roles of artist and model.
