Self-portrait in solitude
I studied Fine Art at Birmingham City University and finished with a 1st class honours in 2013. Though I truly found a path for myself whilst studying for two years at Heatherley’s School of Fine art in London. I painted directly from the model and immersed myself in a study of oil paint and its countless possibilities. I have previously exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the New English Art Club.
I have always found self-portraiture fascinating, for it represents the artist without embellishment, caught in the moment of making, tools in hand. When we confront ourselves in the mirror, our blind spots and blinkers become apparent, we see any judgements that we place upon the world, and everything is taken away and we find honesty. So my task is to look without prejudice and paint what light reveals.
