Robyn and her portrait of Ian Stephen at the 2018 SPA Exhibition

Originally from Edinburgh, I studied at The Metropolitan College in Glasgow, and am now based in the Highlands working for The National Trust for Scotland in the Reveal inventory project. As a documentary photographer, I have an interest in the relationship between people and land. My most recent project 'In Living Memory' used film and photography to explore this connection through our rich oral tradition of songs and storytelling.  The subject of this portrait is Ian Stephen, a writer, poet, storyteller and mariner from the Isle of Lewis. I photographed him out of doors, in natural light, sitting on an old sailing boat that he restored with the help of a friend.
